The Extermination of Jews in the German "Reinhardt" Operation

This exhibition, translated and adapted from the museum’s Polish-language copy, examines the systematic murder of Jews in the General Government by Nazi Germany during 1942-1943. It was created for the 80th anniversary of Operation Reinhardt and runs independently of the permanent “SS-Sonderkommando Sobibor” exhibition, open since 18 March 2025.

The exhibition presents the perpetrators, the chronology of the crime, and the main extermination sites across twenty thematic sections. The presentation combines historical texts with photographs, documents, maps and survivor testimonies. As the organisers note, the exhibition “commemorates the victims of antisemitism and persecution carried out in the name of a racist ideology.”

What to expect

The exhibition documents how, in the course of Operation Reinhardt, more than 1.5 million people - predominantly Polish Jews, alongside citizens of Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands, France, Greece and other countries - were murdered in the death camps and concentration camps linked to the operation.
