Journey Through Life. Paintings by Inka Zamoyska

Paintings by Jadwiga “Inka” Zamoyska, a Canadian-born artist whose parents were the last owners of the Kozłówka palace, hang in the Kościuszko Manor House inside Lublin’s university botanical garden until Saturday 10 October 2026. One garden-plus-manor ticket gets you in, and a porcelain show shares the building. The garden publishes its text in Polish only, so the quotation below is our translation.

UMCS Botanical Garden on the exhibition:

The exhibition presents the painting of Jadwiga “Inka” Zamoyska - an artist and a daughter of the last owners of Kozłówka. Shown in the Kościuszko Manor House in the UMCS Botanical Garden in Lublin, it is a unique record of an identity stretched between the world of emigration and the tradition of her ancestors’ country.

Although the artist was born in Canada and worked in the USA for decades, for several years now Poland has been her main place on earth. These constant returns to her homeland have led to her “hitting her stride” as a painter and to intense creative work, which gives her a soothing sense of being at home. Conscious of her own craft, she blends in her art a native sensitivity to mood with a bold, American approach to light and composition.

What to expect

The manor normally shows period furniture and mementoes; until 10 October its rooms hold Inka Zamoyska’s paintings alongside a collection of porcelain from Chodzież, a Polish porcelain town. The garden gives neither the number of paintings nor the rooms they hang in. The show opened on 13 September 2026, so it runs for less than a month.

The best guide to the subjects is a report from the opening day by the Lublin blogger Grzegorz Gołębiowski, who worked from the leaflet handed out to guests. Titles he lists include:

• “Ogród botaniczny w Lublinie” (The Botanical Garden in Lublin) - the original is right outside the manor windows.
• “Po drodze do Warszawy” (On the Way to Warsaw) - a Polish roadside landscape, with no closer location.
• “Cardiff poranna mgła” (Cardiff, Morning Mist) - the Welsh capital in fog.
• “Widok na ocean” (Ocean View) - one of the seascapes.
• Views of Lublin, Arizona and California - among them Ku Farze, a lane in Lublin’s Old Town.

That spread is the point of the title: Lublin-region landscapes hung next to North American and British ones. The garden describes paintings only, so do not expect Zamoyski family heirlooms - for those, go to Kozłówka itself.

Context

Kozłówka, a palace north of Lublin near the town of Lubartów, was the seat of the Zamoyski family until 1944, when the communist land reform decree took it into state hands. A palace museum has run there since 1977; today it is the Zamoyski Museum in Kozłówka, with the family’s interiors preserved.

According to the Zamoyski Museum, the artist - full name Jadwiga Maria Jolanta Zamoyska - was born in Canada in 1950, the youngest of four children of Jadwiga (née Brzozowska) and Aleksander Zamoyski. She grew up in Montreal and later lived in London, Toronto, Rochester and San Diego. She trained in economics and learned painting in the workshops of fifteen painters, whom the museum names; she paints landscapes, still lifes and family portraits.

Her link to Kozłówka is more than a surname. The museum showed her paintings in the palace in autumn 2018, and in the years since she has led plein-air painting sessions in its park. In summer 2026 the museum ran a series built around her, with informal talks called “Tea with the Countess” and painting sessions called “Capturing Kozłówka”, as the Catholic weekly Gość Niedzielny reported on 30 July 2026 .

Tickets and time

There is no separate exhibition ticket. The manor is entered on the combined garden-and-manor ticket: 18 PLN standard, 15 PLN reduced, 50 PLN family. The garden alone costs 16 PLN and 11 PLN, so the manor adds just 2 PLN or 4 PLN. Children under five go free; season-pass holders and UMCS alumni card holders pay 5 PLN for the manor. Buy at the gate or online.

The manor keeps shorter hours than the garden. Tuesday to Friday it is open only 10:00-14:00. On Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays: 10:00-17:00 in September, 10:00-16:00 in October. The garden’s ticket office sells until 17:30, which does not mean the manor will still be open.

The last day is Saturday 10 October 2026, manor open until 16:00. That weekend (10-11 October, 9:00-15:00) the garden also opens its greenhouses, which it does only on selected weekends - a good day to combine both. Do not leave it to Sunday 11 October: the paintings will be gone.

Allow 20-30 minutes for the manor with both shows; that is our estimate, as the garden gives no visiting time. The autumn garden will take the rest of your afternoon.

Use the entrance on ul. Willowa, between nos. 58 and 60, where the ticket office and parking are. One announcement of the show gives ul. Sławinkowska 3 as the address, but the gates on that side are staff-only.

Getting there: buses 2, 7, 37 and 47 stop closest (Tarasowa or Bogdanówka, then about 300 m on foot). Buses 18, 20 and 30 leave you about 1.5 km away on al. Warszawska.

English on site: the exhibition page is in Polish, and the garden says nothing about English captions or tours. Painting needs little translation, but do not count on labels in English.

Who it is for: visitors who know Kozłówka and want to see what the daughter of its last owners paints today, lovers of landscape painting, and anyone heading to the garden anyway. Who can skip it: anyone after old masters or Zamoyski family memorabilia.
