What to expect

Womai occupies 600 square metres of cellar under a tenement on ul. Pawia, roughly five minutes from the platforms of Kraków Główny station. The space is split into two routes that do opposite things: one plays with light, the other removes it completely. Both are guided, both run on timed entries, and that changes what the visit is - closer to a booked session than a museum you wander through.
“Towards Light” runs 90 minutes through hands-on physics and optics: a laser harp, a theremin, a mirror room, interactive sands, acoustics and illusion stations. A guide walks a small group from one experiment to the next and explains the mechanism, rather than leaving you to read a label. It is a well-run physics lesson without desks, and it works for mixed-age groups from about six upwards.
“Towards Darkness” is an hour in a space with no light at all, in a group of no more than eight, led by a guide who is blind. You cross a street, shop at a market stall, handle everyday tasks - all of it by touch, sound and smell. The minimum age is 9, and the limit is sensible: small children find the dark frightening, while teenagers and adults come out with something no exhibition about the senses can hand over second-hand.
For an international visitor the calculation is simple. If you have one slot, the darkness route is the reason Womai exists and there is nothing comparable in Krakow. If you want scale, a whole afternoon and self-paced exhibits, Cogiteon out in Czyżyny is the better buy. Skip Womai entirely if your trip is short and already includes another perception-based attraction.

Tips
- Book the darkness route first. At 50 PLN full price and 45 PLN reduced it is cheaper than “Towards Light” (55 PLN and 49 PLN) and it is the part people remember. Only add the light route if you have a spare 90 minutes.
- Ask about English when you book. The centre lists Polish and English for its group programmes, but there is no standing English slot for individual visitors. Confirm by phone (+48 12 313 23 59) or e-mail before you turn up; the tour is entirely spoken, so this matters more here than at a labelled exhibition.
- The price depends on the event. One ticket for one event costs from about 30 to 55 PLN; a 1+1 family ticket for the science show is 60 PLN. Science shows for individual visitors run during holidays, school breaks, the summer and long weekends. Card, BLIK and cash are all accepted.
- Allow one to four hours. The length depends on the events you choose: from 60 minutes up to about 4 hours with three attractions. You can book slots back to back - if a guide runs over, you do not lose your place on the next one. What matters is arriving on time for the start.
- Buy online for a fixed time. Groups are small and weekend slots go early. Arrive 10 minutes ahead; the guide gathers the group on the hour.
- Your phone goes in a locker. No photographs and no lit screens in the dark, without exception. The key lockers and the cloakroom are free.
- The entrance is easy to walk past. Pawia 34 is the frontage opposite the Galeria Krakowska shopping centre and Womai itself is underground. Add five minutes to find the door on a first visit.
- Avoid weekday mornings from October. During the Polish school year weekday hours move to 8:30-16:30 and school classes fill the routes. Afternoons and weekends are the individual visitor’s window.
- Discounts worth claiming. Children under three enter free; the reduced rate covers school pupils, students and over-65s; visitors with disabilities and their carer get 20% off. There is no free-admission day.
Getting there
Tram: the Dworzec Główny stop sits in the tunnel directly under ul. Pawia, and the exit surfaces a few dozen metres from the door. Most lines crossing the city centre call there.
Train and bus: Kraków Główny railway station and the coach station are on the far side of the tracks, five to seven minutes on foot through the Galeria Krakowska passage. If you are arriving in Krakow by train, Womai is the first attraction you can reach without transport.
On foot: about 10 minutes from the Main Square - up Floriańska to the Barbican, across the Planty park, then along Pawia.
By car: there is no museum car park and the centre advises against driving. The closest and cheaper option is parking on ul. Ogrodowa; the other is the paid underground car park of Galeria Krakowska across the street. The whole district is a paid parking zone.
Nearby
Cogiteon Science Centre in Czyżyny is the large-scale alternative - many times bigger, unguided and built for a full afternoon with children, where Womai trades scale for intimacy and the darkness route. Ten minutes’ walk into the Old Town, the Museum of Illusions makes tricks of perception its whole subject; it is cheaper and shorter, so treat it as a companion rather than a substitute. If Womai leaves you wanting machinery instead of senses, the Museum of Engineering and Technology in Kazimierz has historic vehicles and workshop equipment you are also allowed to touch.
Background
Womai opened in October 2019, founded by Agnieszka Kulik and Stuart Hall on the argument that Polish schooling trains neither curiosity nor empathy well. The name is an acronym of “World Of My All Inspirations”. It began with five people and now employs more than twenty, around half of them blind or visually impaired - and they are the ones who lead the darkness route and shape how the centre develops.
That model has won it recognition that most Krakow attractions do not collect: a “Hermes” statuette in the city’s Kraków bez Barier accessibility awards in 2022, third place in the national Lodołamacze competition for inclusive employers in 2023, 2024 and 2025, and the city’s family-friendly-venue title from 2023 to 2025. By Krakow standards Womai is a small venue, but it is the only one in the city where a blind guide runs the tour.
