What to expect
Come for the machinery, not the drinks. This vodka museum in Krakow fills part of the former state distillery in Grzegórzki, about 2.5 km east of the Main Square as the crow flies, where Polmos made vodka until 2010. The pieces that justify the tram ride are industrial: a complete steam-powered farm distillery laid out as one production line, a 1970s bottling and loading room, and the laboratory where recipes were developed.
Wrapped around that core are seven themed galleries over roughly 1,100 m². Expect staged sets rather than hushed display cases - a nobleman’s feast, a bar from the interwar years, the yard in front of Distillery No. 11 with its railway siding - plus films, touch screens and a collection of bottles, labels and photographs.
The route opens with a screening in a small cinema room. The museum’s rules estimate 90 minutes; allow two hours if you stay on at the bar.
Two of the four ticket types include a tasting at the Utopia bar. The “patient” version is served at the end: two house base vodkas, wormwood and lemon, and two mini cocktails made from them. The “impatient” version is a single cocktail of your choice handed over at the start. At the ticket shop’s current prices, a ticket without any tasting costs 20 PLN less.
In the museum’s own words (our translation from its Polish rules): “The Museum applies the principle of responsible conduct and does not promote the consumption of alcohol.”
Worth the detour for adults with an interest in industrial or social history, and a good fit for a late-afternoon slot after a morning in the Old Town, since doors open only at 14:00. Skip it with young children: minors may come in with a parent, but the museum calls itself a place dedicated to adults.
On Tripadvisor the museum had ten reviews, averaging 4.9 out of 5, on 23 September 2026. One visitor from October 2023 praised the modern exhibition, found it easy to reach by tram and was glad of the bag lockers.
Tips
- Buy a timed ticket online. Each ticket is valid for one entry at a set time, and online sales close 10 minutes before the slot. Show it at reception 15 minutes early: latecomers are not let in, and tickets are non-refundable.
- Bring ID. Staff check age at the ticket desk, or before entry if you bought online. Without an identity document you lose the tasting and get nothing back for it.
- English means the audio guide. Audio guides come in English, German, French, Italian and Ukrainian. Guided tours in Polish run on a schedule or by advance booking; on 23 September 2026 the online shop showed single Polish slots, for example on Friday and Saturday at 17:00. The museum’s FAQ says its guides also lead tours in English, but no English slots were listed, so e-mail muzeum@fabrykawodki.pl before counting on an English-speaking guide.
- Pay what the shop says. The website still lists the tasting ticket at 59 PLN and the guided tour with tasting at 79 PLN. On 23 September 2026 the museum’s own ticket shop charged 69 PLN and 89 PLN. Entry without tasting is 49 PLN in both places, a guided tour without tasting 69 PLN. The desk takes card or cash.
- Driving? Buy the no-tasting ticket. Opting out of the tasting on the day does not lower the price, so pick the 49 PLN ticket from the start. The same goes for anyone who does not drink alcohol.
- Try the field game. The ticket shop also sells a field-game version of the route, starting at half past each hour. Expect over an hour of hunting for clues and solving puzzles, at the same prices as the standard visit.
- Travel light. Large bags and backpacks are not allowed in the exhibition. Self-service lockers next to reception lock with a four-digit code you set yourself.
- Wheelchair users. The museum states that it is fully adapted for visitors with disabilities. Dogs stay outside, except guide dogs with their documents.
Getting there
Tram: ride to the Fabryczna stop on al. Pokoju (lines 1, 14 and 22, according to the Fabryczna 13 complex) or to Cystersów on ul. Mogilska (lines 4, 5, 9, 10, 49 and 52). The conference centre in the same complex quotes about 10 minutes by public transport from Kraków Główny station; check live departures on the MPK Kraków journey planner.
On foot: about 2.5 km as the crow flies from the Main Square, so most visitors coming from the Old Town will want the tram. The museum is part of the Fabryczna City complex, which also has restaurants and a Mercure hotel.
By car: the complex has about 200 paid, unguarded parking spaces. Charges apply from 9:00 to 22:00, payable at the meters or in the APCOA FLOW app.
Nearby
The closest museum on this site, about 1.2 km as the crow flies, is the Botanic Garden Museum of the Jagiellonian University . The timing fits neatly: it admits visitors until 14:45, and the vodka museum opens at 14:00. For another factory turned museum, Oskar Schindler’s Enamel Factory is 1.9 km away in Zabłocie, though its subject is the German occupation rather than industry.
If you are travelling with children, do the Living Obwarzanek Museum by Stary Kleparz in the morning - a hands-on baking class for the younger half of the family.
Background
The Polish State Spirits Monopoly started building the plant in 1928, in what was then Krakow’s district XX Dąbie, to a design by Stanisław Piotrowski. The production hall and warehouse went up on either side of a track linked to the railway line to Kocmyrzów, and the exhibition recreates that siding. State Vodka Factory No. 11 began production in May 1931 with some 500 workers; during the war the Germans partly extended it and the workforce reached 1,000.
After 1945 the plant came under the Warsaw headquarters that later became Polmos. It was privatised in 2002, and in 2010 production in Krakow stopped, with bottling of Krakowska vodka moved to Łańcut. The site is now the Fabryczna City development of the Inter-Bud group, whose company F.R.B. Inter-Bud also runs the museum. It opened in October 2022, with an exhibition designed by the Krakow studio Fabryka Dekoracji.
