What to expect

Give House of Illusions in Krakow an hour if you are travelling with children from preschool age to about 12, or with friends who want a phone full of trick photos. Preschoolers may care more about the ball pit and the live geckos than the illusions; the museum itself rates those two, both included in the ticket, highest for its youngest groups. On a walking day it costs no detour: the door is at Floriańska 6, between the Main Square and the Florian Gate.
For an evening, the choice between Krakow’s two illusions museums makes itself. House of Illusions stays open until 23:00, while Krakil, 680 m away on Straszewskiego street, shuts at 19:00 on weekdays and 20:00 at weekends. By day, at 59 PLN for an adult in both, it comes down to style. Krakil is for understanding, with staff who explain each effect, a section on historical optical devices and instructions in four languages, English among them, at most stations; Floriańska is for doing.
The museum’s own estimate is 45 to 60 minutes. The Polish family blog Maluszkowe Inspiracje, visiting in February 2025, spent about ten of them in the glass maze and two or three in the vortex tunnel, a metal footbridge inside a spinning drum. The museum calls the maze “the best glass maze in Poland”; nobody independent has ranked it.
The rest of the route is photo sets: a tap pouring from nowhere, a head on a sofa without its body, a room where gravity seems to fail and an Ames room that turns one of you into a giant. How many there are depends on the page: the museum’s website says over 40 in one place and over 30 in another. You will read little: the museum says every illusion is described without naming the languages, the gecko boards are in Polish and English, and the website, online shop and FAQ exist in English.
Adults on their own are the weak spot. A January 2026 TripAdvisor review of the combined House of Attractions package was titled “Waste of money for adults. Pictures are better than the experience!” Skip it as well if you have no interest in pictures or have done an illusions museum elsewhere recently.
Tips
- Card works at the door, discounts are online. The ticket desk takes card, BLIK or cash but does not sell reduced or group tickets. Reduced tickets (39 PLN for pupils, students and seniors; the shop also lists children and disabled visitors) exist only on the museum’s website, where the code ONLINE takes another 10% off. Tickets stay valid for 12 months with no time slot, so buying before the trip costs no flexibility.
- Do the family maths. Under-3s go free and preschoolers pay 19 PLN. With two school-age children, the 149 PLN family ticket saves 47 PLN on separate standard and reduced tickets, and undercuts Krakil’s family rate by 6 PLN.
- Ring ahead for a late visit. Call +48 517 512 824 before counting on the last hour or on a public holiday. The advertised hours are 10:00-23:00 (10 AM to 11 PM) daily, yet the site’s structured data gives 22:00, and the FAQ says holiday hours may differ although the contact page promises opening on holidays. Even at 22:00 it outlasts the Pharmacy Museum up the street by hours.
- Turn the maze into a game. On their February 2025 visit the blog family were set to find hidden digits, staff would not say how many, and they gave up after three. The same blog warns to watch younger children closely, and under-14s must stay with an adult throughout.
- Travel light. Bags and backpacks go into free lockers, and food and drink stay outside. The three floors are linked only by stairs with handrails: there is no lift, a stroller has to be carried, and the museum says it is not suitable for wheelchair users.
- Carry ID. The museum requires an identity document at the entrance.
- Check the address on a combined ticket. The shop page of the House of Attractions group, which runs this museum, places its illusions museum on Grodzka Street. This venue is at Floriańska 6, so go by the address on your ticket. The package also spreads over separate buildings, and a September 2026 TripAdvisor reviewer said staff gave no information on the other locations.
- Seen a 7D cinema listed for this address? That listing is out of date. In February 2025 a family blog found a 7D cinema and a VR trip to Krakow in 1650 here, but the museum’s current exhibit list names neither, so do not come for them.
Getting there
On foot: the obvious way. Walk up Floriańska Street from the Main Square towards the Florian Gate. The museum is about 120 m as the crow flies from St Mary’s Basilica and just under 300 m from the gate, on the route to the Barbican.
From the station: Kraków Główny is under 900 m away as the crow flies. Cut across the Planty park and through the Florian Gate, then straight down Floriańska - simpler than changing trams.
Tram: the museum names the Teatr Słowackiego and Poczta Główna stops, and Stary Kleparz on its page for schools. Each is roughly 400-500 m as the crow flies from the entrance; for Stary Kleparz the museum gives a seven-minute walk.
By car: the museum lists the paid car parks Pod Rynkiem, Szpitalna and Wielopole, but itself recommends public transport. If you are staying in the centre, leave the car at the hotel.
Nearby
- The Museum of Illusions Krakil on Straszewskiego street, 680 m away as the crow flies, is the direct rival at the same 59 PLN. Its reduced ticket is 45 PLN and it closes at 19:00 on weekdays and 20:00 at weekends; in return you get a historical section and staff who explain the mechanics.
- The Pharmacy Museum at Floriańska 25, about 100 m away as the crow flies, is the antidote to an hour of tricks: historic pharmacy interiors and real objects in cases for 16 PLN. Allow 90 minutes, and note that it is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
- The Polonia Wax Museum at Floriańska 32, about 190 m away as the crow flies, is the same kind of private attraction at 59 PLN, with a mirror maze at the end. It stays open until 23:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, so the two fit into one evening.
