What to expect

If you are already planning a visit to the Manggha Museum , the Europe - Far East Gallery is the part of the complex that widens the lens. Opened in 2015 as an annexe to the museum’s famous riverside building opposite Wawel Castle, it was conceived not just for Japan but for the whole of Asia and the Pacific: the museum describes it as the only centre in Europe fully devoted to promoting cultural dialogue and contacts between Europe and the countries of the Far East and the Pacific region. The annexe was built with EU funding under Poland’s Infrastructure and Environment programme and houses exhibition halls, a conference room, storage, specialist workshops and offices.

Set your expectations accordingly: there is no permanent collection on display here. The gallery runs on temporary exhibitions and events, often leaning on contemporary media and new technologies, so what you get depends entirely on the current programme. In summer 2026 it is showing “Japanese Design Today 100” (15 May - 30 August 2026), a survey of one hundred objects of contemporary Japanese design, alongside “Akitsushima. Wyspa Ważek” (19 July - 11 November 2026); workshops and lectures continue through August. Check what is on before you commit - on a strong show this is one of the best contemporary exhibition spaces in Krakow, and on a changeover week there may be little to see.

Visiting in practice

The gallery keeps the same rhythm as the rest of the Manggha complex: Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, closed Mondays, with last entry half an hour before closing. The museum publishes a single price list for the institution - standard 30 PLN, reduced 20 PLN, family 50 PLN, children and teenagers aged 7 to 16 pay 1 PLN - and admission is free on Tuesdays, which is also the busiest day. The museum does not publish a separate price list for the gallery alone, so if you are coming for one specific exhibition it is worth confirming admission details on the official page or by phone (+48 12 267 27 03). Note the museum’s published closure dates for 2026: 1 January, 6-7 March, 5 April, 1 November and 25 December. The building is adapted for visitors with disabilities. Allow around 45 minutes for the gallery itself - and since it stands at the same address as the main museum, the sensible plan is to see both in one visit.

Getting there

The gallery shares the museum’s address at Marii Konopnickiej 26 in Debniki, on the Vistula boulevard directly across the river from Wawel Castle. From Wawel hill it is a ten-minute walk over the Grunwaldzki bridge or the footbridge beneath it; trams to Rondo Grunwaldzkie stop two minutes from the entrance, and from the Main Market Square the whole journey takes about fifteen minutes. Cyclists can roll up along the riverside path, which passes right by the complex.

Nearby

The obvious pairing is the main Manggha Museum building next door, with its rotating displays of Japanese woodblock prints and the best view of Wawel in the city. Across the river rises Wawel Royal Castle , and a fifteen-minute walk through Kazimierz brings you to the Ethnographic Museum on Wolnica square.
