Free museums in Krakow on Friday
Arriving on a Friday? Free museums in Krakow are thin that day: no museum in the city uses Friday as its weekly free day. What works is the short list of places that never charge, led by the Dominican Museum and the Amber Museum , both a few minutes from the Main Square. The Biecz Land Museum is free on Fridays, but it is a long day trip.
No Krakow museums with free Friday admission this week. See the free museums by weekday calendar.
Tips for Friday
- Dominican Museum: book before you fly. Entry is free, but only with a free ticket reserved online for a specific day and hour; there is no standby queue. It opens Thursday to Saturday only, and Friday is its long day, 10:00-18:00.
- Dominican Museum: what you get. The draw is a set of stained-glass panels from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, the oldest in Poland. Allow 40 minutes to an hour, assume Polish labels, and use the monastery gate at ul. Stolarska 12 rather than the church door.
- Amber Museum for the evening. Open daily until 20:00, with no ticket and no booking. Since November 2023 it has been one reduced display inside the Boruni jewellery gallery, so allow about 20 minutes. It makes sense mainly if you plan to buy amber and want to know what you are looking at.
- Biecz: a two-hour drive each way. Biecz is about 130 km from Krakow and there is no fast rail link. Free Friday covers most of the four buildings, but not the collegiate church, St Anne’s church or the town hall tower. Budget two hours inside and note the daily 13:00-14:00 “quiet hour” the museum lists; phone ahead to check whether visitors are let in then.
