Museums in Krakow that are always free
Some Krakow museums have no free day because they never charge at all. That does not make them walk-in: one opens three days a week on booked slots only, and several smaller collections see visitors by appointment. The two that suit a short city break are both in the Old Town, a few minutes from the Main Square.

Tips
- Dominican Museum: book before you fly. The Dominican Museum opens Thursday to Saturday, and entry needs a free ticket reserved online for a specific day and hour. It holds stained-glass panels from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, the oldest in Poland. Allow 40 minutes to an hour and assume Polish labels.
- Amber Museum: set your expectations. Since November 2023 the Amber Museum on ul. 艢wi臋tego Jana has been one reduced display inside the Boruni jewellery gallery. The visit takes about 20 minutes. Worth it if you plan to buy amber in Poland and want to know what you are looking at; if you expect a full museum, you will be disappointed.
- Amber Museum: the late option. It is open daily 10:00-20:00 with no ticket and no booking, so it still works as an evening stop. The museum publishes nothing on label languages; visitor accounts report Polish, English and Chinese.
- Smaller collections keep short hours. The Historical and Missionary Museum on ul. Stradomska opens Monday to Wednesday 14:00-16:00 and Sunday 15:00-17:00, and closes in the summer holidays and on public and church holidays. The Krakow University of Economics Museum admits visitors only by appointment.
- The Academy of Fine Arts Museum is closed for now. The Academy of Fine Arts Museum shut when the Academy moved its main seat to ul. Bernardy艅ska 3, and the Academy says it will announce the first exhibition at the new address. Leave it out of your plans.
