Przegląd Jesienny (Autumn Review) - Lecturers and Students of the Academy of Applied Sciences in Nowy Sącz
19 October 2026 - 29 November 2026
A regional university puts its teachers and its students on the same walls. Artists and designers from the Department of Art Education and Visual Arts at the Academy of Applied Sciences (ANS) in Nowy Sącz show their own work next to projects by their students of graphic and UX design. The show is open from 19 October to 29 November 2026 at the Piekarska 2 Art Gallery, the temporary exhibition room of the Karwacjan Manor museum, just off the market square in Gorlice. The museum publishes no English text on the exhibition; the words below are our translation of its Polish description.
Karwacjan and Gładysz Manors Museum in Gorlice on the exhibition:
The exhibition PRZEGLĄD JESIENNY is the latest event in a long-standing collaboration between the Department of Art Education and Visual Arts of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Art, Academy of Applied Sciences in Nowy Sącz, and the Karwacjan and Gładysz Manors Museum in Gorlice. The aim of the exhibition is to present the work of academic teachers - members of the Department - and of students of the art and design programmes: Graphic Design and Visual Technologies - first-cycle studies - and User-Centred Design for New Media - second-cycle studies.
What to expect
Two generations share one room: practising artists and designers who teach in Nowy Sącz, and the students they supervise on a bachelor’s course in graphic design and a master’s course in interface and new-media design. The museum names no artists, gives no number of works and describes no individual piece. It does publish an outline of both degree courses: publication design, photography, visual identity, user interfaces, mobile apps. That tells you roughly what to look for, not what is actually on show.
“Przegląd” is the Polish word for a review or survey. As the museum itself points out, art schools usually hold such a show at the end of the academic year. This one comes at the start of it and stays up for six weeks.
The gallery at Piekarska 2 is a single ground-floor room in a townhouse on the square; the Karwacjan Manor itself, on Wróblewskiego Street, is closed for renovation. Allow 30-45 minutes. That is our estimate; the museum gives no visiting time. The museum announced the opening for Monday 19 October 2026 at 18:00.
Context
The Academy of Applied Sciences in Nowy Sącz is a state vocational university, founded in 1998 as the State Higher Vocational School (PWSZ). It took its present name on 1 October 2022 and had 2,951 students in December 2023. Its art and design courses belong to the Faculty of Social Sciences and Art at 6 Chruślicka Street in Nowy Sącz. The link with the Gorlice museum goes back years: in February and March 2014 lecturers and students of what was then the PWSZ showed their work at the museum’s Kasztel in Szymbark. Separately from the Gorlice partnership, the department also stages such shows as a university: in March 2025 it opened its own exhibition, “Przebiśniegi” (“Snowdrops”), with work by staff and students of both courses.
Tickets and time
Tickets: the Piekarska 2 gallery has one price list: 10 PLN, reduced 6 PLN (school pupils, students, seniors, retirees and pensioners, people with disabilities). Holders of the Polish Large Family Card (Karta Dużej Rodziny) pay 5 PLN each, as do organised groups of 10 to 50. The museum mentions no booking system for individual visitors; the ticket desk is on your left as you come in.
Free Tuesdays: the museum makes Tuesday a free-entry day at all its branches, and this is the only exhibition at Piekarska 2, so a Tuesday visit costs nothing. The last day of the show, 29 November 2026, is a Sunday, when the room is open 11:00-15:00.
Hours: Tuesday to Friday 9:00-17:00 (9 AM to 5 PM), Saturday 11:00-17:00, Sunday 11:00-15:00, closed on Mondays. Unlike its open-air museum in Szymbark, the museum publishes one timetable for this room all year round, with no winter variant. The current version is always on the tickets and hours page (in Polish). During the run the room is also closed on 1 and 11 November.
Access: five steps without a handrail lead to the door, and the museum states that the building is not adapted for visitors with limited mobility. Magnifying sheets for reading the labels can be borrowed at the ticket desk.
Worth it for secondary-school students weighing up a design degree and their parents, and for anyone who hires designers and wants to see what a regional school turns out. The pairing of teacher and student in one room is the point of the show. Do not travel to Gorlice for this single room if you are after a large exhibition: combine it with the museum’s permanent display “Axentowicz. Dziedzictwo artysty” (Axentowicz: the artist’s legacy) at 4 Piłsudskiego Street.
English on site: the museum states nothing about English labels, audio guides or tours for this show, and all its information about it is in Polish.
Updates
- 2026-10-07 - The museum has corrected the closing date: the show will run until 29 November 2026, not until 29 December as the exhibition page said before (sources: the exhibition page and the museum’s list of exhibitions , in Polish).
