Teresa Chomik-Kazarian. Four Seasons

The Museum of the Chełm Land is showing paintings by Teresa Chomik-Kazarian in the former Chapel of St Nicholas, a baroque interior the museum uses as an art gallery. The run is five weeks, from 25 September to 30 October 2026. The museum’s own words below are translated from its Polish-language page; there is no English version of it.

The Museum of the Chełm Land invites you to an exhibition by Teresa Chomik Kazarian, “Four Seasons”, which will open on 25 September 2026 at 17:00 in the former Chapel of St Nicholas.

The title of the exhibition evokes the eternal rhythm of nature, the changeability of the world around us and the wealth of colours and moods that accompany the successive seasons. It is an invitation to an encounter with art and to discovering the artist’s individual view of this universal subject.

We warmly invite you to the opening and to visiting the exhibition.

The exhibition will be open in the former Chapel of St Nicholas until the end of October this year.

What to expect

The show is at 4 Świętego Mikołaja Street, not in the museum’s main building at 55 Lubelska Street. That is a separate address a few minutes’ walk away, and a separate ticket unless you buy the pass. The museum gives the closing time as 16:00 on 30 October 2026, so the run ends with the building’s last working hour that month.

Expect one room, not a sequence of galleries. The former chapel is tall and cool, and the canvases hang to a rhythm set by the architecture rather than by a curator. According to the regional weekly Super Tydzień Chełmski, the artist works in oil, acrylic, drawing, pastel and printmaking, so what you see is a survey of techniques rather than one tight cycle. Allow 20-30 minutes.

If you like landscape painting and the art of a local milieu, this is worth the detour. If you want multimedia, interactive stations or a strong curatorial argument, skip it and go to 55 Lubelska Street instead, where Galeria 72 runs in parallel.

Context

Teresa Chomik-Kazarian was born in Krasnystaw and studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and at the art secondary school in Zamość. She has lived and worked in Chełm and nearby Uher since 1968, opening a creative workshop there in 1994, according to Super Tydzień Chełmski. The same paper counts more than 130 plein-air sessions and workshops she has organised and the founding of the artists’ group “PASJA”. It puts her record at roughly 30 solo exhibitions in Poland, Armenia, Slovakia and Ukraine, and more than 130 group shows. She received the “Meritorious for Polish Culture” badge in 2018 and the Golden Cross of Merit in 2021. The Armenian thread is not accidental: her husband is Owik Oganes Kazarian, a painter and stage designer born in Gyumri, whose work the museum showed in February 2026.

The venue has its own story. The building at 4 Świętego Mikołaja Street is a former Uniate church, built between 1711 and 1730 as part of the Greek Catholic seminary complex in Chełm. After the seminary was closed in 1875 it served as the chapel of an Orthodox seminary, then as a Catholic chapel, and today it houses the museum’s Department of the Art of the Chełm Land. Seeing contemporary painting under a baroque vault is part of the experience here, not an accident.

Tickets and time

There is no separate charge for this show: the museum’s standard ticket covers permanent and temporary exhibitions alike. A single-building ticket is 20 PLN full price, 15 PLN reduced; a pass to all four museum buildings is 40 PLN and 30 PLN. Holders of the municipal “Karta Chełmianina” and “Chełmska Karta 3+” cards pay 15 PLN and 10 PLN per building, or 25 PLN and 15 PLN for the pass. Children under 7 enter free.

Admission is free every Thursday, and the museum does not carve temporary shows out of that: its price list covers “permanent and temporary exhibitions” together. Opening hours are Tuesday to Friday 10:00-16:00 (10 AM to 4 PM), Saturday and Sunday 12:00-16:00, closed Monday, last entry 15:30.

One trap for weekend visitors: since 5 September 2026 the building at 4 Świętego Mikołaja Street has been closed every Saturday. A Saturday trip to Chełm planned around this exhibition ends at a locked door - come on Sunday, or on a Thursday, when it costs nothing anyway. There is no online booking; a guided tour of one exhibition costs 50 PLN per group.

English on site: the museum has no English-language website and states no English labels, audio guide or English-language tours for this exhibition, so assume Polish-only captions. The price list and opening hours are the only pages the museum publishes bilingually.
